Oleo submission day
An oxy-aceltalyne torch, a special tool fabricated from a 2 inch
pipe coupler and a couple of grade 8 bolts,
a big honkin' chisel and a 3 pound sledge hammer all came together
to perform this team effort
And after a little clean up - here are the players
Here's that dang collar that claimed a full Saturday of my life
Here's the spring and the tool I made

For new seals I visited the local hydraulics supplier. I just brought the oleo assembly with me and after some measuring
with a caliper I walked out with one Vee Packing Set 1 3/8 x 1 3/4, 1-4-1 for $7.73

The 1-4-1 means that there is one seal that has a flat bottom, 4 regular Chevron seals and one with a flat top

They stack in the collar like this

Then slide onto the piston, the threaded insert collar adjusts how tight the seals are on the piston

The big rubber hammer is just there for backup in case something doesn't want to cooperate

Threading into the housing
Question: How in the heck did I take this picture? Those ARE both my hands...

The whole shebang
I was ready to say that I have finally reached the nadir (at least
in respect to the fuselage)
where I'm finally done taking things apart and am ready to start
putting things back together
But wait a minute - what about this?
