Hey - it's my birthday
Last week I cleaned up the boat and put it on Craigs List. It took a
little over 12 hours to find a buyer
Although I did have some 'seller's remorse' and my eyes wet a bit as I
watched her get hauled away
by the new owner my pocket was bulging with a big wad of Franklins -
newly aquired Project Luscombe funds
So, on to the first task. I know it looks great but the fact is that
it's been sitting like this for about 5 years. It's a C85-12F
The climate here isn't that harsh but I cannot, with good conciense
just hang this thing on the nose of my Luscombe
without at least seeing just exactly what I've got. Anyway, I'm a
gearhead at heart and just love rebuilding motors
Here - I have removed the starter
After removing the generator and tach drive and all of the nuts I'm
ready to pull the accessory case off
Now it's time to pull the jugs
Things look pretty good so far, I don't see any rust or corrosion or
pitting or any of that nasty stuff I feared might be there
No broken or stuck rings. This is a factory reman with 900 hours on it
I know it looks really clean - the previous owner had it 'detailed
which, as you can see here, means
painting over the dirt and rust. When it comes to engines, I'm not real
big on 'detailing' - that's why it's coming apart
These are the throughbolts, backside of #2 and frontside of #3
All or the jugs are off now and it's time to start splitting the case
After a couple of tries I finally found all the 'hidden' bolts and
succeeded
Not much left to take apart now
So far everything looks pretty good. Since it was a factory reman the
crank should be standard
I'll just need to determine the wear and see if it's good to go or if I
should turn it down
After that it's off to Fresno Airparts for an overhaul kit
May seem like a heck of a way to spend one's birthday but this is #51
Not much significance to it after that big fiftieth pig roast kegger
bash last year
Just another year gone by and one begins to wonder how many are left
So I decided to get going on the project but now I gotta pack cause me
and the brother are going
to try make it up to Alaska in the Maule
We should be on our way by Thursday and yes- there will be pictures
