Alfa Whiskey Annual - day two
Hey Colin, you sure Johan didn't put those clamps on because I don't
see any missing
Anyway, here's the crack in the heater shroud. I know there are guys
who can TIG weld Pepsi cans
and Lord knows I gave it a try but I couldn't do it
So I took the old route, cut out the cancer so it can't spread any
further
and make a patch. I only had .025 aluminum and didn't think it would
hold up so I used a piece of stainless
Next time this thing cracks - it ain't gonna be here
Not a bad fit
and I always appreciate the chance to practice riveting on someone
elses airplane before doing my own
Hell, I think this is gonna work Colin - better than a big honkin' hose
clamp eh?
I got a can of 'Lycoming Grey' from Aircraft Spruce to take care of this
I had big plans today. I had made up some 2x4 clamps for the main gear
so I could jack them up and get the wheels off
They didn't work.
Even getting the tail up turned out to be a hassle because there
weren't two guys around without hernias to pick it up
So I had to use the jack and of course then it was in the way so I
ended up with this Rube Goldberg tailstand
Well at least I got the tailwheel off. It was loose on the spring and
wobbling
All that loosnes and shimmy sure hasn't been kind to that new tire you
bought
Hey - I only did 8 landings on this thing and 5 of them were wheel
landings so don't blame me!
Don't worry Colin, I can fix this and if we pay a bit more attention to
it I think this tailwheel will be fine
There's a bit of corrosion going on too. I'll take care of that and you
should get a new hubcap ordered
maybe get an extra too and don't forget the snap ring.
I've got most of the external panels opened. I removed the rear seat
and will get the inside opened up next weekend
Haven't got my head stuck up in here yet but the camera took a peek
just to see what was in there
The cowl fit in the Blazer but of course I had to remove the spare first
I hope this works out. Me and Bill could have fixed it up pretty easy
Shipping it off to Georgia....well, all sorts of mishaps could occur
What do you think of my new business card design?
