Alaska Trip
Day Four
- A Day in Prince George -

Okay, up early and the weather looks really good - we're on our way to Whitehorse shortly

But first a walk around town to check it out. Our ATM cards haven't worked in any of the macines at the airports
so we still have no Canuk Bucks and we decide to look for a bank - on foot

We found a bank, got some cash and grabbed a cab to take us back past our hotel and then out to the airport
where my brother performed a ritual that would certainly attract rain

Yup, sure enough...
We called for a weather brief and it was necessary because our leg to Watson Lake is about 400 miles of nothing

and just 80 miles north at  Mackenzie - the base of the trench, it looks like this
A local pilot tells us that pireps for the trench are reporting blue skies but the wx breifer tells us
that regardless, the reports at Watson Lake - the end of our 450 mile trek are 100 ft ceilings, 2 mi visibility
and thunderstorms.

So we decide to wait it out at the airport and while preflighting the airplane we notice that the bolt for the
left hand exhaust stack has come loose and departed so we're down for maintenance anyway
Luckily it has cleared up a bit - don't be fooled though, Prince George is the only VFR airport on the map right now

So it's back to town, get a room and hit the Pub

The beer and popcorn were good, as well as the service - folks up here are real freindly

And that's a good thing because Americans can act like assholes sometimes
especially grounded flyers after a couple of beers

As the evening progressed the weather pretty much stayed the same

We found a nice restaurant and strolled around town

There was some interesting architecture by the civic center

Interesting murals too

Some of 'em kinda spooky

But they sure are better than grafitti

9 PM

Clean, tidy town

10:05 and still not dark - but I guess that explains why everything's closed and the streets are empty

Back at the room we were confronted with this
After half a dozen Canadian Molsoms it was just too much for me to handle

Tomorrow - we wish for clear skies
