Alaska Trip
Day Three

We woke up in Yakima to clear blue, cloudless skys and decided to check
the
FAA Alaskan Weathercams - Here's Sheep Mountain

But what the heck, that's a couple of days away so we depart Yakima
about 9 am
straight towards Mt Rainier in the far distance

It's a long ways off but it's a big mountain

We follow river valleys up past Omak and other little towns in north
central Washington

Some spots remind us of Switzerland

Soon we reach the US Canadian border which is right there

Our point of entry is Penticton British Columbia

Nice beach on short final over the lake

Nice ramp, not too many airplanes though

Here's a PIK (Pilot Information Kiosk) where you can get weather info
and file flight plans
Being the dumb American that I am I managed to get myself locked in here
because I didn't take note of the access code to get back out to the
ramp
I had to wait for my brother to come and rescue me

Canadian customs didn't meet us but the lady was a bit miffed at us
because we arrived 45 minutes early
She said that normally that is not acceptable so be aware that they
want an accurate ETA
We left Penticton on a flight plan for Prince George
On the way we flew over countless beautiful lakes - I couldn't begin to
remember the names of them all

The colors of many of them were pretty interesting

There's another one, this is way out in the middle of nowhere but there
were some houses
and airstrip and a seaplane base

and 3 bars on my cellphone!
Verizon - there is no substitute

Our plan is to stop at Prince george for gas

The weather has been great today and it's real pretty country up here

Here's the straight in approach to Prince George

There was still plenty of daylight but it was looking as though we
probably will want to go up the 'trench'
rather than follow the Alcan Highway as the weather to the east of the
hills is not as good
So we decide to park at Prince George for the night so we can enjoy the
trip tomorrow

I know there are people who don't believe Man ever went to the moon
Some of you may not believe we really are in Canada
So here's definitive proof - sandals with socks on
Tomorrow - Whitehorse, Yukon Territory
